Commercial Contract Manager

About us

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko is an independent Crown entity that regulates the electricity market. We are a kaitiaki of electricity, and our purpose is to enhance New Zealanders’ lives, prosperity, and environment through electricity. We are focused on achieving an electricity system that is secure, resilient, and affordable, and provides more choices for consumers. Competition is critical to making this happen.

The electricity industry is at a pivotal moment, with the journey towards renewable energy sources and innovation reshaping how we operate. To meet these challenges and opportunities, we’re evolving as an organisation – growing our capabilities, expanding our reach, and building a team ready to create a brighter, more sustainable future for Aotearoa. Our focus is on making a difference through bold thinking, collaboration, and delivering value for the communities we serve.

About the role

Due to an internal promotion, we’ve got a new opening for a Commercial Contract Manager to join our team. You’ll be managing one of the Authority’s highest value contracts, and one which is nationally-critical – the Authority’s contract with Transpower for system operator services.  If you’re experienced in managing complex commercial contracts and love working in a fast-paced, people-focused environment, this could be your next big move.

You’ll help keep New Zealand’s electricity system running smoothly – quite literally helping to keep the nation’s lights on. From performance monitoring to building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, you’ll play a vital role in making sure everything stays on track and up to standard.  There are plenty of established processes to step into, and in addition the contract has just been renegotiated, which gives ample opportunity to build and shape this further.

We’re a collaborative, high-energy team where your ideas are valued, your work makes a difference, and no two days are the same.

Why work with us?

Electricity plays a critical role in the quality of our lives and businesses. As an electricity kaitiaki our work is diverse, intellectually challenging and contributes directly to our communities, economy, environment, and the nation as a whole. We are a small but high-impact organisation where talented individuals can make a real difference. We foster an open, collaborative environment that encourages quality, innovation, ongoing learning, and knowledge sharing.

We support a healthy work-life balance and offer a range of benefits to support our teams:

  • Competitive remuneration range, starting at $130,000 (plus 3% net KiwiSaver contribution)
  • Flexible working options
  • Individual and organisational support for training and development
  • A strong focus on health and wellbeing

Are you someone with the following?

  • Proven experience in managing complex and high-value contracts, including financial and performance monitoring.
  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to build trust and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable insights.
  • Highly developed organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight timelines.
  • Experience or knowledge of the electricity sector is desirable.
